The College Bowl

The College Bowl is an annual academic contest for graduate students currently enrolled in healthcare programs that are part of the ACHE/HCE Higher Education Network.

The College Bowl began as a Jeopardy-style contest with teams answering questions related to health care policy and management. The format has evolved into a case study competition. Students use their creativity and knowledge of healthcare administration to solve the case study. The case studies revolve around real issues faced by healthcare executives and their organizations. Students are judged by the quality of the analysis and their presentation skills.

The College Bowl will be a case competition for graduate students only.

Up to 3 teams per school may participate (4 members per team).

Program directors must register each team representing their school by Monday, March 29th by 5:00pm PST.

An entrance fee of $100 per team is due at registration.

  • Team members who were alternates and who did not participate in the presentation in the previous year are eligible to participate.

Teams will be judged on their analysis of the case, their responsiveness to the prompt, the executive summary, and their presentation skills. Judges will focus on the viability of the strategies and the flow of the presentation. This includes content, organization, and demonstration of logical thinking. In addition, the team must be able to answer questions in a prompt, concise, and accurate manner. Executive summaries will be evaluated on their utility as stand-alone documents that reflect the analyses and resulting recommendations for the organization.

The judging panels will be composed of high-level executives from diverse backgrounds. They are selected by the College Bowl Committee and remain anonymous until the day of the competition.

  • Work must be done by team members only, with minimal assistance from faculty advisors.
  • Team members may use only reference materials available to the general public.
  • Team members cannot contact the site or engage employees or partners of the sponsoring organizations, or organizations identified in the materials.
